Mattancherry Palace was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later renovated by the Dutch, giving rise to its popular name, the Dutch Palace. The museum is particularly renowned for its extensive Kerala murals depicting Hindu epics, as well as royal portraits, ceremonial objects, weapons, and furnishings associated with the rulers of Cochin.
