Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat (Phitsanulok)

Phitsanulok Province

attraction

Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat is Phitsanulok's most historic temple, a prestigious Buddhist holy site built during the Sukhothai dynasty. Known worldwide as the home of the gleaming golden Buddha statue "Phra Buddha Chinnarat," its graceful and well-proportioned design is said to be "one of the most beautiful Buddha statues in Thailand." The temple grounds also feature a white chedi, a platform influenced by Khmer architecture, and an ancient cloister and bell tower, blending history, architecture, and faith. The golden Buddha gracefully floats in soft light in the early morning, while the deepening shadows of the temple grounds at dusk make it a perfect photo spot. Located close to the city center, this temple is a popular center for historical pilgrimages.
