Jaipur’s historic center is known as the Pink City because many of its buildings are painted in a distinctive terracotta-pink color traditionally associated with hospitality. Founded in 1727 as a carefully planned royal city, the UNESCO World Heritage Site contains palaces, markets, temples, monumental gates, and lively streets arranged on a geometric grid.
